2. That said, I think the Dems are trying to be shrewd with this bill: By "stripping" the bill of low-priority programs (i.e. National Mall landscaping and contraceptives), it appears that the Dems are compromising while the Reps refuse to budge.
3. Unfortnately, the Dems I think are too slow to realize that public sentiment has already turned on this bill. They've seen how the bank bailout has failed to do anything tangible, and given current economic conditions, it's hard to justify throwing more money at a problem that $700 billion hasn't already fixed.
4. As many others have pointed out, if the bill is really that great ... don't you think Democrats would want to take sole credit for it?
